Orsay Museum Long Exposure and a touch of Color Efex Pro

Posted by on Jan 28, 2013 in blog | 19 Comments

yesterday I was with my kids visiting the Orsay Museum in Paris, shame on me I had never been inside.

there was a lot of persons in and outside of the Museum. The sky started to be interesting but I don't like to take photos when there is tourists on my photos. So I took out an ND 1000 filter, put my camera on a tripod at F 18 with a 180 second of exposure (3 minutes), all the tourist were gone !

I also like a lot the effect that it does to the clouds.

Retouched in Lightroom 4 and then I used a couple of filters of Color Efex Pro. I think I will do my next podcast on how I retouched that photo.

I have done a lot of long exposure, but always around 60 second range, then  I realized that most of the master on the subject, would do 3 minutres average. This is my first try at that long, I like it :-)

Also wanted to make a color version for once and not black and white.

I like how time affects our perception of the world around us. In photography you can freeze it or contract it and it suddenly looks completely different.

Wonderful! I was there last summer (stayed across the street) and I just couldn't get the picture I wanted of this place. Excellent work.

Hi Serge, that's amazing how long exposure can solve some of the problems we face in busy city landscape. Great job. If you go down to Toulouse let me know we can go out and shoot some pics together

if you want to experiment on the cheap grab yourself a pair of welders goggles, pretty much the same thing only difference would be the quality, but at least it gets you going and trying it out

What a novel way to use long exposure! Great idea. Will have to try it when I'm in Paris in March.
